By: Ami Meitsu

Anyone who has watched the English version of Star Blazers, (which is what I go by during writing) should know that during the dubbing of the series, Invidia's role was changed from that of Zordar's mistress (which I find creepy), to his daughter. But, despite knowing this, I still follow the English version. And, in doing so, I began to wonder "if Zordar is her father, then what happened to her mother?" and "why is he, (like most Cometines,) green while she was made Caucasian?"

This led me to come up with a long back-story of both Zordar and Invidia's pasts, including the role of her mother, a woman named Sabera Marie…

Description: Description: Description: C:\Users\Honey Bunny\Documents\My Documents\Bunny Nest of Documents\STORIES\Star Blazers\FREDDO'S VISIONS PROJECT\Ami's Stories\Invidia_files\image005.jpgThe story is that Sabera met Zordar in high school, which, I'll admit seems quite unusual, considering Zordar's status on the Comet; however this is explained by his desire to want to attend a real school and not a nobility academy. Anyway, they were assigned to do a project together for about a month, and in doing so, learned several things about each other they would have never known, as they did not speak with each other in school. The closeness brought them together on the last night of the project, and then, they kissed for the first time. Though embarrassing, it made them both realize that they had feelings for each other, and had since early into the assignment. They then kept their relationship quiet for a bit until finally working up the courage to tell their parents, who, amazingly enough, approved…though, their reactions were mixed.

Zordar's parents, more so, his mother was ecstatic. She had been setting him up with women for years with no results, so to have him willingly in love was something big for her. Sabera's parents were beyond relived, she had not shown much interest in boys and her mother feared that she would be rejected once the men knew that she wasn't as always as well as she seemed.

You see, growing up Sabera had health problems that were never really made clear by her doctors. The few that were diagnosable were her asthma attacks, which were caused by weak bronchial tubes, and her food allergies, the most severe being raspberries. These problems never stopped her though, and she went on with live as normally as she could, beyond relived when Zordar revealed that he wasn't scared of nor creeped out by her issues. In fact, he helped take care of her! This trust bonded them further, and realizing he just couldn't live without her, Zordar proposed during their last year of college. Sabera, of course, accepted and they were married in less than a year.

And, a year or so later, Sabera found out that she was going to have a child. This did not sit well with Zordar or her parents of due to her health. But, after seeing her love for and determination to have the child, they came to support the decision and in January 2184, Sabera gave birth to Invidia, whom she named. However, just a few months after Invidia was born Sabera's health began to decline even further, partly because of the birth, but, mostly because her problems had finally caught up to her.

On the outside she seemed healthy, often playing off her problems as a cold, or lack of sleep. However, they could no longer be hidden when she collapsed during a speech on a diplomatic mission about five and a half months after Invidia's birth. She then spent the next month in the hospital, and while things seemed to be getting better at first, it soon got worse and after a month in the hospital, she passed away, leaving Invidia alone and Zordar in shock.

It was so much of a shock that even being with Invidia hurt Zordar, so he left her in the care of generals Bleak and Dyre, and later, Sabera's parents for a week or so while setting up the funeral processions. And, after the funeral Zordar had a shrine set up to honor Sabera, and, realizing she'd want him to go on he took Invidia back under his wing and raised her alone.

Due to this, her relationship with her father is often elaborated on in my writing. It is set as such so that she seems passive and mean around others, including Zordar, in public but she's actually quite loveable. And while Zordar himself seems like nothing but a power-hungry mad man out for conquest he has a soft spot for Invidia and has been and will always be there for her. Despite this relationship though, I figured that her mistakes in the second series may have worn out Zordar's patience with her, and that, combined with his liking for Desslok, made things tense up until the point where everything almost fell apart. However, they did reconcile later and things went back to semi-normal for awhile. Not returning to normal status until years after their trials on Earth.

However, not all parts of this story have a happy ending. An old plotline of mine introduced General Turpis, a man hidden in the shadows who had always been secretly in love with Sabera and anxiously awaited the day she'd leave Zordar. When it was apparent that this was not going to occur, it frustrated him, but he kept up hope until Sabera's death, which seemed harder on him than Zordar. Though, that fact was due to his playing off grief as anger, and needing someone to blame, he blamed Invidia, since it was apparent that Sabera was stressed after her birth. He had never liked her, and this accusation made it worse, up to the point where he started hitting her, at only age four. He deemed her a 'monster', a 'demon' and even a 'devil' telling her to go to hell and never come back. He was one of few people who knew how to make her break down and cry and loved to see Invidia in pain. Fortunately, he had disappeared on a mission years before the current storyline. He did however, return, but was sent off by Arty and was never seen again…

Sabera's Memorial

When Trelania saved Zordar and Invidia in my universe, she also saved everything that they had with them, including a trunk full of Sabera's memory items, which held clothes, jewelry, and all of the family albums Zordar had kept on hand. The only thing that was not recovered was her body. It, along with her shrine was destroyed when the Argo defeated the Comet Empire. But, always wanting to remember her, Zordar and Invidia, with permission from the government and another shrine, got permission to set up a memorial site for her so that they'd always have a chance to visit and talk with her…
