Invidia's Tears of Rejection

Another Invidia Short-By Ami Meitsu….

Ever since Desslok was brought in by the Comet Empire it had been Hell for Invidia. Often times she was put aside because of him, even though she was the rightful Princess, and she often thought her father didn’t care anymore either, hell he could probably kill her and not care…at least that’s what she thought.

‘It’s not fair!! Why does he have my father’s favor?! I’m his daughter! And what does he do? He kicks me out of the meeting for him…’ Invidia thought as she headed down the hall, she was supposed to be at a meeting with her father, but he sent her away and gave Desslok her place! He told her she needed a break, but she knew that he was lying, even though he wouldn’t admit it; he wanted nothing to do with her. “It’s just not right!” Invidia raged as she came into her suite, she laid on the bed and put her head down on her arms.

“You okay?”

“Huh?” Invidia looked up and found Shamura on the bed. Shamura was her bath servant and closest friend in the palace. “Oh yeah, I’m fine…I think.”

“What’s wrong?”

“My father hates me.”

“Why do you think that?” Shamura asked.

“Desslok! He gets all of Father’s time! And I’m his daughter! It’s…It’s not right” she threw one of her pillows across the room.

“I think you need a bath…”

“Why? I took a shower this morning.”

“You need to calm down and think, come on.” Shamura grabbed her arm and pulled her up.

“Fine, I’ll come but I won’t like it…” Invidia said as she followed Shamura into the bathroom.

She was wrong. As soon as she got in Invidia felt a lot better. ‘Maybe I did need a break…he’s not always lying…but this could be what he wants! I let my guard down and the next thing I know I’m outta here!!’ “I don’t wanna leave!” Invidia said out loud.

“Uh…Mistress? Who said anything about leaving?” Shamura asked.

“Oh, sorry I was thinking out loud…” Invidia stated. “I mean, what if my father wants me to think it’s nothing? And then he comes back and throws me out?!”

“You jump to conclusions too fast.”

“So? What if I’m right? What if…what if…he really hates me?!” Invidia said with tears in her eyes.

“He could never hate you!” Shamura told her “You’re his daughter, he loves you.”

“Sure…”

“Don’t be like that; if he didn’t love you he wouldn’t have cared for you all these years…”

“Maybe you’re right” Invidia sighed and looked up.

A little while later Shamura left to get something and ran into Zordar.

“Oh, Shamura, have you seen Invidia?” he asked.

“Oh, well she’s in the bath now, but…”

“Thanks” he walked off.

“No, I…” Shamura sighed, he was in such a rush that he probably didn’t care what she had to say anyway, but Invidia wasn’t going to be happy…

“Invidia, I need to talk to you” Zordar said when he came in the bathroom.

“Father! I’m in the bath!” Invidia glared at him, she was very particular about baths and such, and hated it when people ignored those rules.

“I can see that, but I wanted you to know that you weren’t kicked out for no reason. There was nothing you could help us with this time, and you do need a break.”

“No I don’t, I’m fine.”

“I don’t know, you seem tense.” Zordar stated.

“Of course I’m tense! You’re in here and I’m trying to take a bath! You know I feel about this!”

“All right, I’ll go; I have to talk to Desslok anyway…” He left.

Invidia watched him. ‘Desslok! Desslok! Desslok! That’s all he thinks about these days!!!” “It’s not right!” Invidia raged as she splashed some water out of the tub. ‘I just have to show him who his real heir is, I have to win back his favor!’

And that’s what she set out to do. For the next few days she tried giving him little gifts, and helping him with various things in an attempt to make him be a little nicer to her, but she was just pushed away, Zordar kept telling her that he was busy or needed to do something else, she hated it. It made her feel useless and unwanted, but Invidia wasn’t ready to give up. After all the rejected gifts she made a bigger one-breakfast. She got up early and took it upon herself to make her father a really nice pancake breakfast. Unknown to most people Invidia can cook, she learned when she was younger (In case the chefs went on strike) and it stuck with her.

‘All right, if this doesn’t get him then nothing will.’ She thought as she walked upstairs with the tray. She sighed, and entered his room. “Father, I made you breakfast...if you’re interested.”

“Not now Invidia” Zordar told her.

“But I…”

“I have something to do, maybe later.”

“Father…”

“Not now” Zordar walked past her, knocking the tray onto her, leaving her covered in syrup, crumbs and juice.

She looked at herself. ‘I worked so hard…and…and I’m rejected?’ She looked at her father “You’re not a father! You’re a monster!” She glanced at him one more time and ran away crying. She was tired…tired of being rejected, tired of the disrespect…tired of everything! She ran into her bedroom, climbed on the bed and cried. ‘It’s not fair! I’m his daughter and it’s like I don’t exist! I want my father back!’

“Mistress are you okay?” Shamura stated as she came into the room.

Invidia ignored her, she didn’t wanna see anyone, she just wanted to cry.

“Invidia?” Shamura went over.

Invidia looked up at her.

“Look at you, what’s wrong?”

“My father does hate me!” Invidia whined.

“What?”

“He doesn’t care what I do! I did everything I could to win his favor and he turned me away! It’s like I don’t exist!” Invidia put her head down on her arms.

“It’s all right and I’m still here.” Shamura reassured.

“I know, but…I just want my father to love me!”

“He does love you.”

“Not anymore! He never wanted me! He wanted a son for an heir but got stuck with me! He only kept me to keep Mama happy, and raised me because he had to!” Invidia wailed.

“Mistress, don’t think that! Ever! Your father loves you!”

“No he doesn’t! He’s using me!”

“Come here.” Shamura got her up and hugged her, but ended up pulling away quickly. “What’s on your dress?”

“My Father’s breakfast, he ran past me and the tray spilled over.”

“Then why don’t you go take a bath? It might calm you down.”

Invidia nodded, she hadn’t taken a shower earlier, so it was probably a good idea. Shamura followed her and got everything set, but once she was in the bath Invidia found that it didn’t help and she couldn’t stay in for more than a half hour.

When she got out, Shamura took her bed cover to be washed (It had gotten dirty from her dress) and Invidia starting going through the things in her closet, she was on the floor in her slip looking through some of the drawers. After awhile she came across something she hadn’t seen in awhile, it was a picture of her and her father when she was younger. She was about 5 or 6 in the picture, and her father was holding her. She remembered this, when she was younger her father had taken her to a reception for a peace conference with some other planet. ‘I remember that night vaguely…but I do remember some of the things they said. ‘She’s so cute!’ ‘Is she yours? She doesn’t look like you…’ and father told them that I was his and that I was his precious, his Princess, and his baby, he loved me…at least that’s what I thought…’ Invidia felt tears pricking in her eyes and let them fall on the frame but she wasn’t going to break down again, she was stronger than that, it just hurt so much to know that her father didn’t love her anymore.

“Uh…Mistress?”

“Huh?” Invidia saw Shamura come into the closet.

“Your father says you’re due for a meeting in 5 minutes.” Shamura informed her.

“Right” Invidia nodded, put on one of her blue/black gowns, grabbed her pointer and left. ‘I wonder what he wants now!’ she thought. When she came in, she saw her father and Desslok at one end of the table, next to her father, where she usually was and moved as far away as she could.

“Invidia why are you down there? Desslok doesn’t have your place; I was just talking to him.”

“I’m fine down here.” She stated.

“No, you’re supposed to be up here.”

“No.” Invidia stated flatly.

“Get up here before the meeting starts.” Zordar hissed as the others started coming in the room and Desslok took his usual place.

“No, why should I? You don’t want me there.”

“Come here.”

“No!” Invidia stood up “I don’t want to be anywhere I’m not wanted!”

“What?!” Zordar looked at her like she was nuts.

“You don’t want me here! You never wanted me!”

“Invidia…”

By now everyone else was watching them and enjoying it.

“Don’t stop me! I know the truth! You were just using me to replace Mama! I’m of no importance, you rejected me for him!” she pointed at Desslok and approached her father.

“Invidia be quiet” Zordar told him “You don’t want them to think that, do you?”

“I don’t give a damn! You know it’s the truth! I’m a reject! You treat him like a son and you abandon me! It’s not right!”

“Invidia be quiet!” without thinking he slapped her-hard.

She just looked at him “You…you struck me.” She had tears in her eyes, but it wasn’t pain from the hit that hurt her, it was the fact that her father had hit her. He never raised her hand to her before.

“Invidia…I…”

Invidia didn’t listen, she ran, she didn’t care what they thought, she needed to cry, this proved it, her father hated her.

‘Why? Why would I do that to her?’ Zordar asked himself ‘I mean, I just hit my daughter, my Princess, my…my Precious…’Even though he felt bad, he didn’t go see Invidia, he knew that she probably wanted to be alone for awhile, but he still wanted to see her. ‘I can’t believe I did that…’

His thoughts didn’t help later that night either…

-Zordar’s thoughts-

“What is this?” Zordar asked, he was in a darkened room, but after awhile some light came in and he could tell-this was Invidia’s room. “Invidia? Are you here?”

“Father…” Invidia stated.

“Huh?” he turned around and saw her on the bed; she wore a long, long strapless black dress. The bottom covered part of the bed. She looked at him; Invidia had faint tears in her eyes.

“Princess…what’s..?”

“Rejection is the worst kind of pain…” she stated.

“What what does that..? Invidia!”

She didn’t speak anymore and the room became pitch black.

“Invidia!” Zordar looked around and realized he was in his bed room, he sighed. ‘This dream…what does it mean? Could it be telling me that I need to see her? I have been pushing her aside…’ Then he realized something. ‘Poor Invidia…being rejected like that…Why didn’t I see it?! I need to see her…’

Zordar got up and headed down the hall into Invidia’s bedroom. ‘She looks so cute…’ he looked at her, Invidia just looked so peaceful and innocent, it made him feel so bad about what he did to her.He sat on the bed, and placed his hand over hers. “Princess, I’m sorry, I’ve been busy and I shouldn’t have hit you, I know that and I’m sorry.” He sighed again, and looked at her, then he picked her up and held her in his lap with the blanket still around her. She was so warm… “I haven’t held you in so long, but you need it now, you were right, I’m not a father, I’m a monster.”

Invidia stirred a bit, and after a couple minutes she woke up and looked at him, it took her awhile to figure out what it was. “Father?” she asked.

“Hi Princess.” He held her closer “look I’m sorry I’ve been ignoring you, I’ve just been busy, but that’s no excuse for rejecting you, and I’m really sorry that I hit you, I wasn’t thinking…”

“It’s all right for now.”Invidia told him, she’d probably talk with him in the morning, but for now she just wanted to be held. He felt so warm, it was comforting, she felt safe and eventually went back to sleep.

Zordar kissed the top of her head “I love you Invidia, always remember that…” he gently laid her back down. “No matter what you’re still my Princess.” He kissed her head again and left.

‘I’ll work things out in the morning; I just want her to know that I still love her…’
