SUSPICIONS AND INTERRUPTIONS

A Death Note/Star Blazers Tale by AMI MEITSU

A/N: First I give acknowledgement to my friend Brittany who helped with one of the scenes in this story! (No I won’t tell which one. That would ruin it.) Oh and to clarify a line Misa says, she and Mello are brother and sister in our (my friends’ and my) universe.

“Where are we now?” L asked as he followed behind Mello, Misa, Light and Tamaro. They had been on the Argo for two hours and were still lost. The people seemed nice but they were always in a rush, so there was no help…

“When I know I’ll tell you!” Misa snapped. “I don’t like it here; I miss the space and all the clothes on the comet it’s just no fun with no one to try and please.I mean the Princess didn’t like me but she was okay. I find it hard to say but I think I might actually…” Misa stopped outside of door she had never seen before. She stepped up to it and it opened, her eyes sparkled. It was just fabulous! The whole room was done in an elegant dark red color, it had a desk of to the side and even a big bed. “What’s this room? It…it reminds me off…Invidia!” She finished off her statement just as Invidia came out of the bathroom; she ran over and hugged her.

“Where the hell did you come from?! I thought you were gone years ago I…”

“Finally someone I know! And your robe is soft, where’d you get it?”

“That doesn’t matter! Just go! I want to be alone, and you’re not supposed to be here anyway!”

“But…”

“Leave! I’ll deal with you later!” Invidia pushed Misa off and sat on her bed.

“Hey,” Misa started, she obviously wasn’t leaving. “What’s this for?” she grabbed a dark red dress that was in the closet. “And why is it in the front? Planning to show off to someone?”

“And get yourself a boyfriend finally?” Mello asked.

“Well…Actually…” Before Invidia could finish, her phone rang. She picked it up and listened. They all watched her as she talked. “Yes,” She said. “I just finished, so if you give me some time I can…” She trailed off and put her hand over the receiver. “Excuse me! This is a private call, all of you out!”

They left, and Invidia continued talking.

“I wonder who she’s talking to…” Misa said.

“Who cares? I’m hungry, I think I’m going to try and find the kitchen again.” L said as he walked off. Mello followed. “Wait up! I’ll come too! They actually have chocolate here!” He ran off and Misa looked at Light and Tamaro.

“Aren’t you two going?”

“No.” Tamaro said. “Good! You can help me, now shush!” Misa put her ear to the door and listened, she just had to hear the rest of the call.

“All right…” She heard Invidia say. “I’ll meet you there in a couple minutes, bye.”

Misa heard her hang up and hid in another room until Invidia came out, now wearing her red gown. ‘Wow…she still has those…’ Misa thought as she followed her while Light and Tamaro just stood there.

“You wanna go find Mello and L?” Light asked.

“No, I’m going to go keep Misa out of trouble, see you.” Tamaro followed after Misa, she would’ve been faster but it was hard for her to run in the high-heeled boots she wore along with a long, spaghetti-strap dark blue dress over a light blue shirt. She did catch up eventually though, and found Misa outside of what looked like a small lounge, inside were Invidia…and a guy.

“Who’s that?” Misa asked.

“Am I supposed to know?” Tamaro looked down at her; she was standing up over her crouching friend.

“You’re the psychic, oh! Quiet! They’re talking!”

‘I wasn’t saying anything…’ Tamaro thought, then she watched.

“So, you decided to spend some extra time with me…before tomorrow?” Invidia asked. She went over and sat on the couch where Arty was.

“I told you I would, Princess…” He hugged her. “And you know I try hard to keep my promises…”

‘Who is this guy? Doesn’t he know that only her father is allowed to call her ‘princess’ out of affection?’ Misa thought, then she looked up to see something that really shocked her…

Arty lifted Invidia’s chin with his finger…and kissed her. Then she moved closer to him and kissed him again, making sure to deepen it.

‘Did they just…I mean…he kissed her! He kissed her!’ “What do you think this means?”

“That they’re in love?” Tamaro guessed.

“She does have a boyfriend! But...where did he come from? I…I have to go tell Mello!” Misa headed off with Tamaro following. She headed off into the mess hall where they found Mello, L and Light at a table with different sweets, and potato chips that Light was eating.

“Mello, Mello, Mello guess what?!” Misa jumped him and he fell over.

“What?!” He asked.

“You were wrong! Invidia doesn’t need a boyfriend she has one! And he’s cute too!”

“What are you talking about?”

“I followed her and she met up with this cute guy with brown hair and they were kissing! She even gave him a deep kiss! I think they’re in love!”

“Good, now would you please get off?! You’re crushing my stomach!”

“Sorry.” Misa got off.

“So let me get this straight…” L started. “You followed her and found her kissing a guy?”

Misa nodded.

“Then there has to be something going on, why would they kiss deeply if they are not in love?” At that he shoved another forkful of cake in his mouth.

“I told you! Now let’s go find out!”She grabbed Mello’s arm and ran him back down to where she had been, and sure enough they found Invidia and Arty together, she was in his lap as he just held her.

“Princess…who’s this?” She asked.

“I told you to leave me alone.” Invidia snapped. “Can’t you see I’m busy?!”

“Who are these two?” Arty asked.

“Misa and Mello, only two of five people who live to drive me crazy, well Light and L don’t, neither does Tamaro, so I guess it’s just them.”

“You’re cute!” Misa told Arty.

“Uh, thanks?”

“Who are you?” Mello asked.

Invidia blushed as soon as he asked. “Well…uh…he’s my husband…”

“Husband?!” Misa and Mello had wide eyes.

“You can’t be married…” Mello said. It was amazing to him that even Invidia’s father loved her, and now this guy?

“Yes.” Invidia held her hand out. “See?” She held up Arty’s hand too, it also had a ring on it, except that his didn’t have a diamond on it.

“Aw! I can’t believe you’re married! And to such a handsome man too!” Misa said.

“His name is Arty and he’s mine!” Invidia hugged him. “Stay off!”

“It’s okay! I have a boyfriend, and I’ll see you later, okay!?” Misa grabbed Mello again and left.

“She’s married…” Mello said. “I mean…she’s…Invidia! Who would want to marry her?”

“Obviously the one called Arty who’s cuddling with her, now come on! I have to tell Tamaro!” She ran off ahead of Mello, and later she even told L and Light, who were just as surprised as Mello, but only when she first said it.

“Married, huh?” L said.

Misa nodded. “You’ve seen him around, too! He’s the guy with the small bit of hair over his eye, remember? You saw him while we were walking down the hall an hour ago.”

“Oh yeah, I remember…” Light said. “And if you think about it, she had to fall in love eventually…”

“I just wished we were around for the wedding.” Misa sighed. “Oh well…” she leaned back on the couch she was on, they were in the same room Arty and Invidia had been in earlier. She sighed, she just couldn’t wait to ask more questions about him! But she didn’t see Invidia until the next evening in her room, and when she caught Invidia in her room she was in that red dress she had seen the previous day.

“You look nice.” She complimented as she came in.

“Oh thanks, Nova hurry up!” Invidia called. As soon as she did Nova came out with a brush in hand. Invidia sat on the bed and Nova carefully finished off her hair, making it silky smooth.

“There, now you’re ready.”

“Thanks Nova, See you.” Invidia left the room and Misa looked at Nova, whom she had talked to the previous day and found out that she was quite nice.

“Where is she going?” Misa asked.

“I can’t tell, but you’ll probably see her later, now do you want to come with me and get some tea with Setsuna and Derek?”

Misa nodded and followed her out of the room while Invidia headed up to Nova and Derek’s cabin where Arty was waiting with a small table and an elegant dinner. They had decided to use the Captain’s Quarters because of the space and privacy, with Derek’s permission of course.

“Arty…it looks so nice…”

“I made a promise and I intend to keep it.” Arty said as he led Invidia to her place. “This is our romantic night together, I mean, I told you I’d make up for ditching you last week.”

“Yes you did. Now hurry up with the wine and kiss me.”

Arty laughed silently and put their wine glasses down, then he leaned over the table and kissed her.

“Good boy.” Invidia teased. Then they laughed, and Arty held up his glass.

“To us,” he said.

“And this quiet evening.” Invidia finished, then they clinked glasses before really starting their dinner. And afterwards Arty took Invidia back to her room, which now had candles around it, and the bed covers had been changed and replaced with the dark red silk sheets Invidia kept for things like anniversaries and special occasions.

“You like it? I had your friend Tamaro help Nova and Trelania set it up.”

“Of course I like it…and I know you came up with it…” Invidia quickly closed the door, but she didn’t bother to lock it, since no one really ever came in her room. “You are such a romantic sometimes…and I love you for it…too much for my own good…” At that she took off her shoes and hugged him. Then, she attacked him, pulling his clothes off with little words. He did the same with hers and they were both naked within three minutes, rolling, kissing and just loving on the silken sheets in the midst of the rare quiet night.

Meanwhile, in other places, it was not so quiet.

“Where are we?!” Tamaro snapped at L, who was leading them through the darkened ship.

“I don’t know, but I think we’re supposed to go that way.” L pointed to the left.

“L, you said that five minutes ago! Why don’t we just find someone and ask for directions?!” Misa said.

“No, I don’t think we need too. And by the way what is it with you women and asking for help?”

“What is it with men and directions?!” Misa snapped. “You know what? I give up! I’m going this way!” She turned back and Mello and Light followed, they figured that Misa at least knew her way halfway around the ship. L just watched and turned to Tamaro.

“So, are you going to stay with me?”

“You’re kidding, right?” Tamaro walked off in the direction of the others, leaving L alone in his spot.

‘Hmm…I’m going back to the kitchen; at least I know where that is…’ L thought as he headed off in the right direction while Misa led her troupe around. They spent about a half hour being lost because there was no one around to give directions…but soon Misa came to a familiar place. “This is it! I know where we are, this is the near the hall with Invidia’s room! Let’s go! She can probably help us.”

Light looked at his watch. “Misa it’s ten o’clock, she’s probably sleeping.”

“So, we can just wake her up. Let’s go.” Misa lead them off, totally unaware of what was going to happen, while Tamaro was just getting a vision of it…

At the same time Invidia lay next to Arty in bed, only covered by the first bed sheet, after having just finished their first session.

“I love you…” Invidia whispered in a gentle voice.

“I know…” Arty said as she moved closer to him. Then they kissed.

“Arty…I love you and I want you again…please…”

They kissed again and before Invidia could move over on her back and let Arty climb on top of her Misa burst in with Mello and Light.

“Princess!” She said.

Invidia screamed and sat up, using the bed sheet to cover her body. “What are you doing?!” She snapped.

“Oh.” Misa started.

“My.” Light said.

“God.” Mello finished.

Misa just stared as Mello did the same, only with a dumbfounded look on his face while Light looked away.

Misa looked at Mello’s dumb look. “Yes Mello, this is what sex looks like, maybe one day you’ll engage in it too,” she said.

“Actually he’s usually on top of me…” Invidia said without thinking.

“Oooooh…” Misa said.

Invidia blushed and Mello just looked at Arty for a minute. “You did that?!” He pointed to Invidia.

“Well, we are married.” Invidia huffed; they were annoying her and ruining the moment.

“But…it’s you! I mean you just…you look…”

“What’s wrong with the way I look?”

“Nothing!” Misa said. “I think you’re pretty! Why don’t you take your clothes off more often?”

“That’s it! Leave us alone! We were just fine until you came! Go!”Invidia snapped.

They just stood there until Tamaro came in a second later. “Sorry, Invidia.” She said. “Come on you guys, leave them alone.” She dragged them out of the room, and looked the door. She knew she should’ve hurried… her visions were usually right…

“Great, the moment’s ruined…” Arty huffed.

“I think I can bring it back…” Invidia threw off the sheet, got on top of him and kissed him.

Arty looked her over. ‘Oh god…How can I resist her…she’s just so…’ He rolled her over so that he was on top.

“Oh, so it’s back now…”

Arty said nothing and neither did Invidia…they just kissed, their breathing getting heavier as their lips joined and their mouths ran all over each other’s bodies…

Invidia began to feel hot and sexy as her heart beat got faster and Arty himself became sweaty, hot and then began to melt into her as the night continued…their wonderful romantic night…

A couple of days later, after the incident in the bedroom, Invidia was in another room. Derek’s.

He had been working with the Black Tigers, but when some of the engine wires turned out to be incompatible, it startled him and a couple of cadets. They were fine when they backed up, but Derek ended up tripping onto the work bench and cut his arm. Now, Nova was taking care of him with Invidia’s help.

Derek was busy struggling to get up when Invidia pushed him back down, she had a wet cloth in hand.

“Stop,” She said. “There’s no need to strain yourself…” She then gently wiped some of the sweat off of his forehead with the cloth.

“Invidia, why are you…?”

“I’m helping, I guess you can call it payback for all the times you helped take care of me.” She continued for a second, and then gently pushed a strand of hair out of his face. “And, you know, you’re kind of cute like this…when you’re needy…” Invidia said gently. “I love you.”

“Yes I love you, too…” Derek said.

Invidia smiled at him, she knew that his ‘I love you’ meant something else then Arty’s. Derek always meant it as a friend; he loves Invidia as that and nothing more…

While they talked Misa, Mello and Light stood outside the door.

“What’s going on?” Mello asked.

“Derek’s hurt and Nova’s taking care of him and I wanna see! They’re cute together!” Misa said as she tried to get passed the guys.

“Misa…Move!” They began to fight as Derek and Invidia’s conversation continued.

“Would it hurt if I…” Invidia started nervously.

“If you what?” Derek asked.

“Hug you.”

“I don’t think it’ll hurt if you’re careful…”

Invidia smiled at him again, went over and gently hugged him just as the door fell open.

Misa stood up. “You…you…” She pointed to Invidia.

“What?” Invidia asked.

“You’re a two-timer! You have a husband, why are you with him?!”

“No, he’s just a friend I…”

“I’m telling Arty!” Misa ran out and Light and Mello just shrugged, then, they left.

“We didn’t do anything, did we?” Invidia looked at Derek.

“We just hugged.”

“But you hug me all the time, and kiss my head. Oh well, Arty knows that,” she shrugged as Misa ran down the hall and right into Arty.

“Arty there you are! You know your wife is two-timing you, right?!”

“What?”

“She and Derek…they were hugging and being way too friendly! Light and Mello are witnesses!”

“Misa, he does that a lot. Derek and Invidia are just friends, okay? I don’t care if they hug, or if her kisses her head on even cuddles with her sometimes. It’s more like a brother-sister relationship in my view, a relationship that took years to form. You know he didn’t like her at first.”

“What?” Misa asked.

“Walk with me.” Arty took her hand and lead her down the hall.

“You see, I liked Invidia when I first saw her, I saved her life actually, and we met in combat…she was pretty and I was glad to see her again, I wasn’t in love with her yet, but she took me out as favors. It was through that I realized that I did love her and then I kissed her. After that she realized she loved me too.” Arty explained.

“Sounds nice…”

“It was, and I also saw that she wasn’t so bad. Derek had different views though, Nova too. And Nova only went to see her because she’s a good person. She thought Invidia might be lonely, and she knew what it was like so she went to see her. Invidia actually cried during their talk and they started a friendship form that, Derek didn’t trust her though, until Nova invited her over for the first time. He could actually see her loneliness as she apologized for trying to get rid of Earth. She seemed so sad talking about her Father.”

“What?”

“At the time her Father was in jail on Iscandar, she missed him a lot, and Derek knew how it felt.”

Misa looked up at him.

“His parents passed away during an attack that was put on us by a planet called Gamilon. So he knew better than anyone how bad loosing Parents can be. And started talking to her, realizing that he felt sorry for her, he hadn’t forgiven her but he felt sorry for her. She had been through so much and didn’t have anyone to help…”

“Wow, that is sad and you know I can actually relate…my parents they were killed before my eyes but Mello…he protected me.” Misa explained.

“What is your relationship with him anyway?” Arty asked.

“He’s my brother.” Misa clarified.

“I see…”

“So, Invidia’s problems are far more than just being mean? Because Mello thinks that all she is.”

Arty paused, moved in front of her and put her hands on Misa’s shoulders. “Yes, definitely, she has her troubles and fears just like everyone else, but she can also be very sweet, you just need to get on her good side.”

“I know she’s sweet. Not to me, but she was to her Father and you…”Misa said. ‘She’s really sweet to you…’ She secretly thought.

“Right…it just takes time to see it…”He walked off, and that night when Misa went into Invidia’s room she saw her fast asleep with Arty and he was holding her.

‘She is sweet….’ Misa thought as she went over and moved some hair out of her face. “Good night Princess.” She whispered before she left. She took one last glance at her and smiled; now she somehow felt closer to Invidia, knowing that at one point, she used to be just as lonely as she was…

‘She may not know it yet, but we seem to have a bond…I know her previous feelings…I just have to tell her mine…’ Misa thought as she went back to her room, which was actually the lounge they saw Invidia and Arty in and took her place on her inflatable bed. ‘I feel better…knowing that she had those same feelings, and I’m glad that she’s happy now too…I really am…’ That was the last thing she thought before finally falling asleep…
