EDF SPACESHIP CLASSES AND NOMENCLATURE-2202 FLEET PROGRAM-PHASE ONE
This Document is a Brief description of the Nomenclature and Class names adopted for all of the Earth Defense Forces active space naval warship classes deployed in January-February of 2202 in the Visions universe. - Argo
class Space Battleship--An exception to Normal United Nations Space Battleship Nomenclature at her launching in 2199, the Argo retains the unusual name granted to her as Earth's first interstellar spacecraft by Admiral Abraham Avatar by Act of Parliament. As such, the class name of the Argo will probably be unique, not agreeing with any current or past nomenclature. She was originally built under United Nations Space Battleship Project Number M-21991, and was briefly named the Yamato. She fought under that name for one short action before her re-naming by Avatar on October 6, 2199.
- Danton
class Space Battleship--This class, built under the United Nations Space Battleship Project Number M-21741, consisted of 275 Space Battleships named after ancient seagoing Battleships and Cruisers of old Earth. Only one example of this class, Admiral Avatar's flagship, pennant # 225, the Alaska, remains, now preserved as a museum ship near the Megalopolis.
- Andromeda
class Space Battleships--The class name for this super-heavy space battleship class is based upon Constellations visible from Earth.
- Jamaica
class "Main" Space Battleships--The class name for the backbone space battleship class of the EDF is based upon the Nations which form the Earth Federation. The single active ship name in this class not agreeing with the nomenclature is that of the Space Battleship Potemkin, named after a famous space battleship of the Danton class lost in battle in the early 2190's.
- Yorktown
class Spacecraft Carriers-The class name for Earth's spacecraft carriers is based upon the names of ancient seagoing Aircraft Carriers of old Earth.
- New York
class Space Fleet Cruisers-The class name for Earth's Space Fleet Cruisers is based upon the names of States and Provinces of the Nations which form the Earth Federation.
- Amazon
class Space Patrol Cruisers-The class name of Earth's Space Patrol Cruisers is based upon the names of Rivers, Lakes, Bays and Straits on Earth.
- Warsaw
class Space Destroyers-The class name of Earth's Space Destroyers is based upon the names of Cities of Earth.
- Sun H'tsu
class Space Frigates-The class name of Earth's Space Frigates is based upon the names of Historical Military Commanders of Earth.
- Valkyrie
class Gunboats-The class name of Earth's Gunboats are based upon Traditional Names for Warriors, (i.e., Valkyrie, Paladin, Crusader, Myrmidon, Samurai) or Names of Mythical Monsters of old Earth (i.e., Vampire, Werewolf, etc.)
An Additional Note: Exceptions to this Nomenclature may be made by Act of Parliament to honor specific occasions, heroic deceased individuals, heroic warships, and the like. This Act may be invoked by petition through any member of Parliament to the Whole Body of Parliament or by decision of the Earth Defense Council then presented as a Petition to the Whole Body of Parliament per the Parliamentary Fleet Formation Act of 2200. The last exception of this Act being invoked was a petition by a Russian Senator to have the planned Space Battleship Rossiya renamed Potemkin in honor of the lost Space Battleship of the early 2190's. Such Petitions are usually granted only upon Good Cause.
