Derek & Nova’s Lovely Christmas
A Christmas Story from Kodai’s Korner
----------------------------------------------------------------------
December 24th 2204
Derek and Nova Wildstar walked into the party right before removing their winter coats.
It was Christmas eve, and they’d just walked into the most beautiful lit up home they’d ever seen.
To no surprise, Dash was the host; he was very rich. Nova in the sparkly long tight red dress that flared out at the bottom. and Derek in a white dress shirt with a red suit and black pants.
Stephen Sandor walks up to them to give them each a drink. “Merry Christmas guys! And happy birthday Nova!” He said smiling.
‘Thank you very much” She smiles back and takes a sip of her drink.
“Merry Christmas Sandor!” Derek says giving his friend a hug.
“How have you two been since the wedding?” asked Sandor.
“Quite good!” Derek replied looking over to Nova who had been blushing.
“Well I’ll catch ya later I’m gonna go talk to some more people” Sandor smiled and left.
“Wildstar! Nova!” Dash said, coming up to the two.
“Dash! What a beautiful home you have! The decorations are just perfect!”
Derek said. “Happy Birthday, Nova,” Dash said.
“I can’t believe people actually remember my birthday, with everything else going on, Christmas eve and all, growing up it was always looked over. I never got birthday gifts, because no one really cared. I only got Christmas gifts the next day.” Nova said.
“Well, you're going to like this then!” Dash said signaling over to Derek.
Derek took a blindfold from his pocket and put it on Nova as he led her into the main party room…
He took off her blindfold and everyone yelled “HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!” There was a big banner that read:
HAPPY BIRTHDAY NOVA!
And a huge cake, with some gifts from some members of the Star Force.
Derek held her hand. “To make up for all the years you didn’t get to celebrate your birthday.”
He saw tears in her eyes. Happy tears. “I-I don’t know what to say…” She said to Dash.
“You don’t have to say anything, It was Derek’s idea!” he replied.
“You did this…for me? You arranged it all?” she said.
“Yes I did, because I love you! Now here, take a piece of cake!” Derek said, cutting her a piece.
Everyone laughed and chatted as the party went on, celebrating both Christmas and Nova’s birthday.
Derek pulled her in close to dance, and later slipped away to another room.
“What are you-” Nova started but before she could finish Derek had kissed her. When they pulled away she laughed. “Thank you so much again, this is the first time I’ve actually gotten to celebrate my birthday!” she said, then kissing his cheek, leaving a lipstick stain that he didn’t notice…until they went back out to the crowd and as more people saw him, and the stain, he heard the crowd go “Ooooooooooooooohhhhhhhh'' and some whistles.
Nova laughed hysterically.
“What is it?” Derek asked. Still laughing, Nova took a napkin and wiped his cheek.
Hours passed at the party, and finally, it was time to go. Derek and Nova said their goodbyes, wished everyone a merry Christmas, while others also wished them a Merry Christmas and a happy Birthday to Nova. And with that the Wildstars were off.
The snow was falling just perfectly in the moment. Before entering the house, Nova stops to stare into the sky. The moon is bright enough to shine through the clouds and she looks up at it.
“You want the moon?” Derek asked. Nova looked at him, not catching on at first. “I’ll throw a lasso around it, and pull it down. That’s a pretty good idea,” he said, quoting a certain Christmas movie.
“Ah, I get it now. That really old Christmas movie…It’s a Wonderful Life” Nova said.
“You got it!” Derek said, looking at the moon again. “Our first Christmas after getting married…” she said, “First Christmas together on Earth really. Every other year there's been something going on.”
“But now it's all over. Merry Christmas.” Derek replies.
Nova looks at him “Aren’t you forgetting one thing?” She asks. “And happy birthday, I love you.” He says before coming closer and kissing her. Then they go inside.
They danced to old Christmas songs in the dimly lit house with only the shine of Christmas lights to light up the night. Finally, Finally a Christmas alone together.
“I’ve been waiting a long time for this.” Derek said in a soft voice.
“For what?” Nova asked.
“A Christmas alone together,” he replied.
Nova smiled, “So have I.” she said, pulling him closer.
They dance until their feet are tired. Then finally settle down a bit, Nova opens her Birthday presents from the party, they make some hot chocolate, get some cookies they made together a few days before, and just sit by the warm and cozy fireplace cuddling.
Derek hands her a small gift. “Happy Birthday,” he said.
“Oh Derek, Christmas is tomorrow you really didn’t have to-” He put a finger to her lips. “Just open it,” He said. She untied the pink ribbon around the small box and opened it. Inside was a locket. A golden locket. “Open it up,” Derek said. So she did.
Inside was a picture of them on their wedding day.
Nova sat there, speechless. She didn’t know what to say, all she could do was kiss him. “Thank you…” She said, Then laid her head on his chest.
“Remember Christmas 2199?” Derek said, breaking the silence.
“When we both happened to both walk under the mistletoe at the same time?” Nova replied.
“You totally saw me walking near it and came up on purpose, don’t deny it!” Derek said laughing.
“Oh please-” Nova started, “am I wrong though?” Derek said. “Okay, fine. No you’re not wrong. You got me!” She said, rolling her eyes.
“Ha! I knew it! I’ve been thinking about that for years!” Derek said.
Nova took his hand and got up. “What are we doing-?” He said. “Shh” Nova put a finger to her lips.
“Aw come on I was comfortable!” Derek complained, jokingly. She led him to the doorway of their bedroom, where mistletoe hung.
“I totally forgot we put this here!” he said with a smile.
“Well, now you know.” Nova said as she pulled him into a kiss. When they pulled away Derek pulled her back into an embrace, and whispered in her ear. “Merry Christmas. And happy Birthday, to my lovely wife.”
She smiled. Then they both went into their room and slept. It was late.
Morning then arrived.
Christmas morning.
They both awoke early in the morning, as if they were small children wondering if Santa Claus had come last night or not.
“Merry Christmas, Derek,” Nova said, smiling.
“Merry Christmas!” Derek replied before kissing her.
Nova took a gift from under the tree and handed it to him. “This one’s for you,” She smiled.
“Ah, it looks like Santa came last night after all!” Derek said with a laugh.
He untied the bow, unwrapped the box and opened it. “A…a model of the Argo?” He said. Then smiled, smiled wide.
“Yes!” Nova said. “I’ve always thought of having one and now that she's gone…”
A tear fell from his eye onto the model.
“Derek…you’ve been a little…distant ever since the Argo sank. Not so much the past couple days, because I could tell you were only acting better because of my Birthday and Christmas…I know you.” Nova said.
“You’re right, Nova. I should be better now…and with all the danger gone now but I just can’t get over it. Because that ship wasn’t just any ship. It was so much more, and you know it. I’ve said it enough times though. I always hated the thought of losing you, and every minute in those battles we fought, you were on my mind, I was terrified of losing you. But some days I miss being up there, up there among the stars, the planets, the moons, the galaxies. I really do miss it. And now with the Argo gone it's even worse. But it doesn’t matter now does it? Because I should be over it. It's just a ship, and we’re on Earth now to start a family, grow old, everything! So why am I still so depressed?!” Derek said letting out everything.
Nova held him, “I’ll always remember the day I found you there without a spacesuit when I took your gun and almost shot myself. Luckily Sandor was there to save me, but I’m like you, I can’t stand to lose you, and if I do what's the point of my life? I remember when you woke up after that…you blamed yourself for it all, and wouldn’t speak to anyone. I was worried, I knew you’d fallen into depression and I tried my best to help you, and didn’t want to lose you. And luckily, I didn’t. And you didn’t lose me either! Now it’s Christmas! Let's cheer up!” She said, then wiped his tears away.
“You’re right, now here you go, he said, getting her present from underneath the tree. “This one’s for you,” he said.
She opened it to find the most beautiful hairclip ever, but not just any hair clip. It looked identical to the one Rose wore in Titanic.
Nova loved Titanic and Derek knew it. He’d watched it so many times with her he couldn’t even count.
“Oh Derek, it's beautiful!” Nova said, blushing.
“I knew you’d love it!” he said.
She put it in her hair. “Sooooo…how do I look?” She said, flipping her hair.
Derek laughed, “It looks amazing,” He said.
The day went on, friends and family came, Nova and Derek cooked Christmas dinner together, and then before they knew it, Christmas day was almost over.
They both cuddled up on the couch together after everyone had left, and put on “Love Actually” One of their favorite Christmas movies.
“Merry Christmas, Derek.” Nova said, looking up at him. “Merry Christmas, Mrs. Wildstar.” Derek replied, then kissed her. And then they made love.
The End
Merry Christmas everyone! Or whatever holiday you celebrate!
