Changing Winds

Part 4

For weeks he stayed in Washington DC. Sandor encouraged him to return back to work. He told him he need to be close to her. That his mind will not be on work. Sandor agreed and made arrangements for him to work at one of the nearby naval stations. ‘You can email me all the reports.’ He told him. He needed to be close to her. He would never be able to focus on his job back on great island knowing she was here with that monster. He rented a small apartment close to Nova’s condo. It was early in the morning when he finally heard from her. “He lo?” he answered with a sleepy voice.

“Derek?”

“Nova?” He sat up quickly to hear her voice.

He could hear her sob and he wanted so much to hold her. “Oh Derek, I miss you so much. I need to see you.”

“I’m still here in the states. Can you get away?”

She was silent for a few seconds and said. “Today, 1400. I’ll come to you. I love you Derek.” And she hung up.

He laid staring at the ceiling counting the hours to seeing her. By noon he was jumpy and edgy. He spent his morning drinking coffee to keep up. Not that he needed it. By two he paced back and forth in his small apartment. The sound of someone knocking on the door made him jump, his heart beating faster. He raced to the door and swung it open. She stood there wearing a warm heavy winter coat in the shade of grey, a scarf wrapped around her neck and she wore a hat to keep her head warm. She fell into his arms and they kissed passionately. “Get in.” he said and looked up and down the hall to make sure she wasn’t followed. He closed the door and took her into his arms again. “God I missed you so much. Are you alright, he hasn’t put his hands on you has he?”

She shook her head no and said. “Derek, I’m pregnant.” He stood back speechless.

“Is it?” He asked.

“It’s yours, I never slept with David. I wanted to wait until I was sure he was faithful and we got married.”

“Does he know?” he asked afraid that he would do something.

She nodded, “Yes he does. He was angry at first but his father convinced him to accept it. He’s telling everyone it’s his. But we all know better.” she hugged him tighter. “I miss you so much.” She cried.

His heart melted. He wanted to take her and run away. They wanted each other so much, he slipped his hand around her back and snapped off her bra. Without hesitation she pulled at his shirt. They made their way to his bedroom as they pulled at each other’s clothes and fell on the bed. He looked down to her stomach and placed his hand on her flat stomach. He wanted to cry more to know that that bastard was walking around telling the world that it was his. Slowly he leaned down and kissed her stomach, then wiped the tears from his eyes. “Are you alright?” she asked him.

“Yeah, it’s just, just that.” She moved his face to look at her and she smiled.

“How do you feel? Any morning sickness? When did you find out?”

“I found out two days ago. I wanted to call you and tell you but he was always there. He had some meeting today and the men he hired to keep me safe,” she said making finger quotation marks, “had to go with his father some place. I knew then I needed to see you. You have a right to know.”

“So you never slept with him?”

“No, never.” He moved his hand up her stomach and caressed her breast. She sighed to his touch. How she missed him. Slowly she reached down and felt that he was hard and ready for her. He grinned and gently moved her legs apart with his knee. With one thrust he entered her again. Their love making was passionate and intense. They worked on each other trying to make up for the time lost. He was gentle not wanting to hurt their child. She laughed at him and told him it was fine. Their love making lasted until two hours later when she told him, “I should go. He will be making his usual stop to my house, as he would put it. Not to mention he’d send over those two goons to escort me everywhere.”

“When can I see you again?” he caressed her body as she tried to get dressed.

“I’ll call you later.” She kissed him and wanted so much to stay. Damn them all for putting her in this position. She wanted to kill her father when he told her to cut it loose with Derek. But she refused to. She would see him any chance she could. “When are you heading back to Great Island?”

“I’m here indefinitely. And now, I’ll be here when you go into labor. It’s my baby, Nova. I don’t care what they say I will be here to see my son born.”

“SON! What makes you think it’s a boy?” she laughed. “It might be a she.”

He touched her stomach once again and smiled. “No, it’s a boy.”

Her eyes softened as well as his. “I love you, Derek.”

“I love you too. Call me once you get a chance.” He wanted to walk her out but she insisted not too. She didn’t want anyone catching them together.

She was on cloud nine when she walked into her apartment. Her afternoon was blissful and nothing could stop her high. She put her purse down when he walked into the room from the balcony. “Where the hell were you!” he snapped. “I’ve been searching for you all day. You had me worried.”

“First how did you get in here. And second I was with a friend.” She rolled her eyes and threw her jacket on the couch. “Again, how did you get in here? This my apartment and last time I checked you don’t live here.”

“You are my fiancé and you will tell me where you’re at every second of the day.” He demanded.

She huffed and went into her kitchen and pulled out a bottle of water. “Let me tell you one thing. You and your family will never tell me what to do! I’m only with you because of Derek and my Father. If it wasn’t for them I would be long gone. So get used to it, and another thing. Get rid of your two goons. I don’t need their protection, I’m a big girl. And I don’t need them at my job watching my every move. Lose them or I will be the most uncontrollable fiancé you’ll ever see.” She slammed the bottle on the table and walked into her room.

David followed suit, “Where were you!” he demanded again.

“Out with a friend. Now I have to work in the morning, so leave.” She began to take off her makeup and jewelry.

He took hold of her hand and turned her to him. “WHO!”

“A FRIEND!” she snapped back.

His eyes narrowed and he stepped back, “It was HIM! Wasn’t it?” she said nothing and continued to remove her jewelry. “Does he know?” She pushed past him and walked back into her kitchen. He followed her like a dog sniffing out danger. “Well! Does he know!” he yelled.

She sipped her water and then place it down. “Do you think I wouldn’t tell him. He has a right to know about HIS child.”

He frowned and she could see the anger grow. “You will not see him again, do understand me!”

“I am not your wife and even if I were, you can’t tell me what to do. I’ll never be a McCoy wife and allow any man treat me like some possession while you go out and have your affairs. I don’t think I can live the life your mother lived. Drinking, having affairs with numerous of men, pertaining that your father is the prefect husbands. She is nothing but a shallow superficial woman.” She said with defiance. She didn’t expect it. He slapped her hard across the face making her almost lose her balance. She held onto her face and looked at him with fury. She grabbed a knife and with quick speed stuck it near his neck. He stood there shocked. “If you EVER put your hand on me again I will slit your throat! DO YOU get ME!” her eyes narrowed and turned black with hatred. “Get something straight, Mr. McCoy, I don’t love you! I love Derek. Now get out or the next thing you see is your blood spray over me and I have no problem seeing blood. You wouldn’t be the first person I killed. Remember I was in war.” He felt his blood drain from his body and slowly he moved towards the door. She sounded like she meant it and considering she fought in battle he didn’t pass it by her. Once the door closed she placed the knife down and saw that her hands were shaking with fear. What was she doing? He was arrogant, pushy and she can tell if they got married it can become volatile. She prayed that her father will find a way to get her out of it. She held on to her stomach and grabbed her phone. Quickly she dialed his number and waited for him to answer. “Daddy?” she said into the phone. “Daddy, he hit me.”

“I’m on my way. Did you call Derek?” he asked.

“No, Daddy. If I tell him he will go to jail for murder.”

“Do you want to know?” she asked.

“Only if you want to know.” He said. They were silent for a few and then he spoke again. “Let’s get married. We can go to Vegas and do it quick before anyone finds out.”

She wanted to cry. If anything she wanted to be married him so much, but she frowned and looked away. “Derek, we can’t. My father hasn’t figured out how to get me out without destroying your career or stop funding.”

“I don’t care about any of that. I was thinking of quitting after my time is up here. I just want you and our child. As for EDF funding I don’t give a shit about them. How can they pimp you out to a monster for their benefits? We can do it and don’t tell anyone. It will be just us. I can call Venture and Homer to witness it. They can keep a secret. I can’t stand to know that you might have to walk down that aisle and be his wife. I want you to be my wife! We can leave tonight and be back by morning. I can fly us there and no one will ever know.” He walked over to his closet and searched for something. He came back and kneeled down in front of her. “Nova Forrester, will you marry me?” he opened a small velvet box and showed her a two carat diamond that he had since he returned from Iscandar. “It was my mothers. I found it with Alex things when they thought he was dead. He told me to keep it. To give it to you when I was ready to ask.” He smiled thinking back. “Even back then Alex knew we were meant to be. Marry me.”

Tears streamed down her face and she nodded. “Yes Derek, yes I’ll marry you.”

He jumped up and hugged her tight. “I love you so much.”

That night they flew out to Vegas. Homer and Venture met them at a hangar far from the major runway. She called her father and told him she didn’t care anymore about what happens that she was going to marry Derek. With his blessing he loaned them his private jet, his pilot and told her that he will see them when they got back. His plan was now in motion. They slipped into a car, went to the chapel and slipped out of Vegas within hours. Their honeymoon was their time on the flight back. They locked themselves in the private room on the jet and didn’t come out until 20 minutes before landing. They were met by her father at a quiet part of the hanger. “Welcome back Mrs. Wildstar. Welcome back Commander.”

“Thank you, Daddy.” She kissed her father and hugged him with excitement. “We got married.” She said with pride as she showed him her engagement and wedding ring.

He smiled at his daughter. “Commander congratulations, welcome to the family. Now I have some news. I believe I have a way out for you, Nova. But it might take a few weeks to get everything together.”

“I think I took care of that. She’s my wife now and I don’t care what he threatens me with.”

“Derek wait, Daddy…what way out?” she asked.

“Nova, I need you to go back to your apartment. I need you to act like nothing happened. You and David’s engagement party is in a month. I need you to go.”

“WHAT!” Wildstar looked at him in disbelief. “I won’t allow it. Whether you like it or not she is my wife now and she’s pregnant. No way!”

James Forrester placed his hand on his shoulder. “Derek, I promise after the engagement party, all this will be over. I have everything all place in order.”

“What do you have planned?” Nova asked.

“Oh I think I’d leave that as a big surprise. Commander, I suggest you attend. Every paper in the world will be there and I think you will enjoy the fireworks.”

Derek wonder what he had planned and ask. “Fireworks?”

“Let’s just say we will never have a problem with them ever. Congressman McCoy loves a show, so a show he will have. He wants to parade my only child like a show dog. Well let’s just turn their focus on something more. Nova I wrote a speech, let’s say it will be my wedding gift to you and Derek. Just go with it.” They both looked at each other confused. They wondered what her father had in mind. “Every diplomat, congressman, president, dictator and royal will be present, let’s just see what they all think of the great congressman and his son. Anyway, congrats to the both of you and welcome to the family son.” He shook Derek hand and hugged his daughter. They slipped into a car that waited for them and sped off to the city.
