Changing Winds

Part 3

By Yuki Wildstar

He walked into the popular and famous Watergate hotel. He found her and they were together again. He was floating on air. He made his way across the lobby when he jumped in front of him. “You bastard! You ruined everything. She was supposed to married me. My family approved of someone with class and you took that from me.”

“You’re a cheat and a liar. Nova deserved better. You would’ve made her life hell. Do you think she would have allow your indiscretions? She would have found out eventually. Better now before she made the leap.”

“She would’ve accept it just like all the McCoy women.” He said with sly remark.

“Then you’re an idiot to think that she would bow down to your ways. Nova is not like that. She is not a trophy wife. She would have never put up with it.”

He laughed, “Do you think you did any better? When I met her she was broken. She needed someone to make her whole again. I made her the woman she should be.”

“Are you for real?! Made her the woman she is? She was always a classy, confident woman. Smart and beautiful. So you didn’t make her anything she hasn’t been. Now if you would excuse me I have to meet her for dinner. So why don’t you go tag along to another one of your bimbos.” Wildstar said as he waved him away.

“Did you sleep with her? Because it’s obvious that she isn’t with me. Here I thought she wanted to wait because she was hurt before by you.”

“I’m going to walk away now before I choke the life out of you.” Wildstar said trying defuse his anger.

David pulled at his arm, “Don’t you walk away from me Commander, I have connections back on Great Island and can make your life a living hell. So, leave Nova alone and let me work it out with her.”

Wildstar stared from his arm to his face, “Get your damn hands off of me!” he snapped through grit teeth. He shook his hand off of him and said. “Don’t throw threats around unless you’re going to go through with it.”

Oh this is no threat, commander or should I say, Ensign.”

Wildstar could feel his anger rise. How dare he try to threaten his career. “I don’t take threats too lightly, so I would watch myself in that department. Now, excuse me.” He pushed past him and tried walking into the dining area. Nova sat at the table waiting for him. His smiled widen as he saw her sitting there. She smiled back and then it left her face quickly. She stood up and was ready to say something when he felt a hard bang on the back of his head. Wildstar went reeling down to the ground, knocking over tables and chairs. He held the back of his head and tried to focus. He saw as David dove his way. Wildstar curled into a ball to prevent pain on his body. Nova raced towards them and pulled on David’s back to stop him from hitting Derek more.

“Stop IT!” she screamed.

And my back isn’t turned this time. So bring it on.” Wildstar stood at a fighting stand. David lunged at Wildstar and he stepped to the side and let him fall to the ground. “Get UP!” He snapped. “Unlike you I like to face my opponent. I don’t sucker them while their backs are turn.” He lunged again at Wildstar and once again he moved faster to avoid his advancement. Wildstar waited until he stood up again and David then stood at a fighting stand. Wildstar egged him on and David gave a hard swing. Wildstar ducked and then gave it all he had, hitting him square in the jaw. David dropped to the floor knocked out. Quickly Derek raced to Nova and held her in his arms. “Baby, are you alright?” She moaned and watched as she opened her eyes. “Hey, are you okay?” She tried to stand up and felt a sharp pain in her ribs. She doubled over and it made him angrier that he hurt her. He was ready to finish him off when she pulled at his shirt.

“No, Derek. Let’s just go. Please.” He helped her to her feet and they made their way through the sea of people that now stood up and watched as the fight unfolded and finished. He helped her to the elevators and stepped into it. As the doors closed she collapse into his arms. He carried her into their room and he laid her down.

He brushed her hair away and gave her a smile. “Do you want me to call a doctor?”

She shook her head and said, “no. I’m just bruised. I’ll be alright.”

“Well at least let me look at you.” He said. She raised her shirt and he was shocked to see a large bruised on her waist. “Ouch that’s gonna hurt for a while. Is there anything I can get you?”

“No, I’ll be alright. Gosh Derek,” She touched his face and realized that he too had bruises on his face. “Are you okay.”

He felt the back of his head and grinned. “You know me. I’ve been knocked on the head before. It just knocked some more sense into me. I’ll be alright. But I’m sure my head is going to hurt tomorrow. I better get some ice for it, before it starts to swell up. I’ll get you some pain meds. Don’t move.” He leaned in and kissed her gently on her lips. “I love you.”

His fight with one of the Congressman’s son hit the papers on the front page all over the world. Nova didn’t tell him that David McCoy was up and coming to be the next president and son of a very powerful man in Washington DC. He was well liked throughout the senate and house. Sandor flew out to Washington DC to deal with the mess. He walked into Nova and Derek suite and sat down. “WELL, you two have made a A picture containing text

“That’s a lie!” Derek yelled. “I was trying to avoid it for Nova sake. He attacked me first. I was only protecting myself. He pushed Nova to the floor.”

He’s telling the truth Sandor. Derek didn’t take the first swing.”

“Be as it may, he is claiming that he and you were having a quiet dinner and trying to work out things when Derek attacked him.”

“If I’d known that he was going to accuse me of throwing the first punch I should’ve done it. That lying prick. I swear,” Derek ranted.

“Derek,” Nova held him back. “Sandor, let me speak with him.”

“And if he doesn’t want to?”

She looked at Derek and smiled. “He will.” She touched his face and kiss him. She grabbed her jacket and started towards the door.

“You’re not going without me.” Derek said out loud.

Nova turned around, “No Derek. I will go alone. Please, let me deal with this.”

“I don’t trust him.”

She hugged him and whispered into his ear. “I know you don’t. But you have to trust me.” Then kissed him on the cheek and walked out the room.

A person with green eyes

“I’m not here to beg to come back, David. Can we talk somewhere private, please?” She was stern in her tone. He motioned her to follow him to his father’s den. They walked in and he close the door. “David what do you think you’re doing. You know you started that fight. Derek tried to ignored you. He didn’t want to start with you and you know it.”

“I see it different. He attacked me causing you to get injured. I never got a chance to make sure you’re alright.” He pulled her closer and held her in his arms. “Come home Nova. You belong here. With me, with us.”

“David you can have any woman. Let me go and leave Derek’s career alone. Unlike what you think he does have some pull in EDF. He will fight you in this just to prove you wrong and show the world. Its best to let this go. Please.” She said.

“All the women I’ve dated, it’s you that my parents always approved of. I can give you everything that you are a custom too. What can he give you?”

“Honesty, love, faithfulness and happiness. I was never about all of this. I could care less about it all. This was my parent’s life, not mine.” She sighed. “Why me David? You can have any one, why me? I am sure that there is a lot of women out there that can live up to your status. Just let me go. I don’t love you. I love Derek.”

“Because you are the one that everyone loves. The Nova Forrester of the Star Force. You are the face of this coming administration. Everyone adores you. I can win it all with you by my side. My family agrees with it too. Now you see why I can never let you go. And if means destroying his career I will.”

“You bastard!”

“Do you honestly think it was coincidence that we ran into each other. My father had a lot to do with that. He spotted you walking on the street and he knew that it was faith. It was always you that he liked. Even way back when we dated he knew that you could be the face we needed to win it all. We knew about you and Derek and your miscarriage. My father did every piece of homework and back ground he needed. Your father’s company is growing at a rapid pace and soon he will be one of the most powerful man in the world. His legal knowledge of international affairs and law will make you richer than any woman in the world. He’s smart but not that smart. My father knows about his expansion here in Washington DC. He will need my father to help him with permits. Now get back to your apartment and tell Lieutenant Wildstar to move along or by the time I finish with his career he will be a private working on a tug boat out in space hulling dog shit. And you know I can do it.” He said with an evil grin that sent chills down her spine.

She left his house and drove back to the city. Lost in thought she knew that he was vindictive enough to do as he said. His father was a powerful man, but her father was just as powerful and smart. She moved her car to her fathers’ office and walked into his office. She stopped short to see who was there with her father. David McCoy Senior sat across from her father talking. Her father’s face didn’t show any signs of what they were talking about. He looked up and she gave him a small smile. “I’m sorry I wasn’t aware you had someone here. I’ll come back later.” Nova said as she tried to walk out the door.

David McCoy Senior stood up and faced her. “Well, hello Nova, it’s good to see you again. Your father and I were just speaking about a project he was considering here in DC. We are hoping to work it out soon.” He narrowed his eyes and smile with a leer. It made her uncomfortable to his stare.

“I see. Daddy, I’ll just wait until you’re done.” Nova said.

“It’s alright, I was just done with your father. I’m sure he would like to spend some time with you. James, I will speak with you more about that issue later. Good day, Nova. We hope that you will be at dinner on Sunday.” He touched her face and grin. “You’re as beautiful as always.” With that he walked out the door and Nova raced into her father’s arms. Her heart pounding hard against her chest.

“It’s alright sweetheart.”

“What does he want?” She asked in between sobs.

“He wants his son with a trophy wife. But I will deal with him. I won’t force my only child into an arrange marriage. That’s primitive. You didn’t go to Iscandar and made it back alive to be force into a marriage you don’t want. In the meantime, I’m working on the situation. First I want to make sure that nothing happens or blemishes Derek’s career. I will represent him myself, pro-Bono. I can see he loves you and you love him. You do love him?”

“With all my heart.”

He smiled at his daughter, “He is a good man and unlike what Mr. McCoy thinks has an excellent reputation and is well respected. It’ll take a lot of pushing for EDF to do anything to him.” He turned serious and said, “Now. You’re not going to like what I say next. To make sure that his threat is not carried through you have to stop seeing Derek.” She looked at him shocked. “It has nothing to do with my project. I can go anywhere in the world for that. But they may decide to stop all trades with Great Island something we can’t afford to do. We are all working together to make the planet flourish and dividing the planet now will end on a bad note.” He could see the water build up in her eyes with frustration and he hugged her tight. “I will explain everything to Derek. We will work together to get you out of this.”

He raced to open the door. He waited hours for her pacing back and forth as Sandor watched. Every time he heard someone come past the door he looked to see if it was her. He wasn’t expecting her father to be standing on the other side of the door. “Where’s Nova?”

Description automatically generated“Hello Derek, we need to talk.” James Forrester said. “Let’s sit.” They sat and James Forrester began to speak. He told them what he told Nova and his conversation with David McCoy senior had prior to her coming to see him. He spoke about his threats toward Wildstar career and trading with GI and what outcome can come if things did not work out with his son and Nova. Each word made Wildstar grow angrier. How can he let them use his daughter as a pawn? “So we have to work together to get Nova out of this before their wedding day next year and election time. I already have my people working on it.”

So Nova has to be with that man! He pushed her for god sake. Who knows what else he is capable of! No I won’t let her go through that. I would rather step down then let her marry that asshole. How can you let her be in the mist of those people? What kind of a father are you!” Derek yelled.

“I love my daughter, but she understands the severity of the situation. We just have to work together and get her out. So, in the meantime, she can’t see you anymore.”

Wildstar stood shock to what he told him. His anger now in full force and he picked up the table and turned it over. He punched the wall and knocked down a lamp and anything that sat on top of another table. Sandor stood up and held him tight. “Wildstar calm down. This is not going to help her at all. Mr. Forrester is right, we have to work together and quickly before they push her down the aisle.” He fell to the ground and cried. His hands were tied and there was nothing he could do about it. He got up and walked into the bedroom and slam the door. Sandor turn to her father and said. “I’m in, what do we have to do?”

“Do you have any people you can trust on the council?” he asked Sandor.

“I do. What do you need?”
